The Backstory
Our customer Durann had just purchased this new to him Mercedes Benz E400 and wanted to address some needed enhancement to the paint prior to daily driving while also protecting it in the process.
Durann had driven a couple hours away to pick up this vehicle and ended up doing the test drive and inspection after dark. At the time all seemed well with the vehicle and everything checked out. So, he got the car and brought it home! Only to find out the next day, during the all exposing sunlight, there were a few unsightly scratches on both sides of the vehicle. It turns out there were some deep scratches in the paint from a prior owner and it seemed as though they took touch up paint to them to try and fix the issue.
Although touch up paint is great, it is not great when applied improperly as it was on this vehicle. In short, a prior owner brushed touch up paint onto the scratches without leveling the added paint. This left an even more unsightly appearance to the eye which we will picture below.
The Process
As shown in the pictures displaying before, during and after, you can see how apparent these scratches were very apparent to begin with.
We determined the proper approach would be to wetsand the excess paint that was left on the vehicle off to then leave only paint in the deep scratches to reduce the appearance of said scratches. What you see in the top photo is before wet sanding, middle is after wet sanding and last is after polishing the wet sanding scratches to reveal a deep gloss with the reduction of the initial scratches.
The Results
All in all both our team and our customer were happy with the results on the vehicle which is exactly what we were striving to achieve before locking in this shine with our 1 year coating to protect and enhance the paint further.
